Hair Loss Challenges & Tips

It’s normal to lose about 100 strands of hair a day. Whether you notice the shedding in the shower, on your brush, or around the house– this is nothing to be alarmed about! But what if you notice you’re experiencing more than average daily hair loss, such as an excessive amount of hair coming out in the shower and on your brush? The important thing is not to stress! We have some facts and tips to help you on your journey to finding answers and possible solutions.

Why?

Sometimes finding the root of the problem can be frustrating. Hair loss can occur due to genetics, diet, stress, health concerns, vitamin deficiency, pregnancy, or even over working the hair with excessive washing and brushing. The answer to why you’re losing hair can fall under one to a number of categories, which is why it’s important to seek answers from your physician through lab work. Notice what type of hair loss you’re experiencing – are you seeing patches of baldness on your scalp, or hair loss throughout the head? It could be as plain as being over worked and stressed in your daily life, to having a vitamin deficiency in your body.

While you attempt to seek answers from your physician, there are lifestyle adjustments you can make in the mean time such as:

Be gentle with your hair when styling mechanically or brushing. Always detangle from the ends of the hair up. We recommend detangling on damp hair with Olaplex No.2 for a creamy smooth finish and to mitigate any damage done during the detangling process.

Use non-toxic hair products that promote a healthy scalp, such as Olaplex No.4 & No.5 Shampoo and Conditioner. No.4 & No.5 contain ingredients like Acetic Acid, Rosemary Leaf Extract, Biotin, Oregano Extract, Burdock Root Extract, and Sodium Hyaluronate to promote a healthy scalp. These ingredients aid in issues such as clarifying the scalp to retard flakiness and promoting the health of the scalp in order to foster scalp health and hair growth.

Avoid washing your hair daily. If you absolutely must wash daily, opt for a gentle rinse in between shampoo days.

Superfood your diet! Seeds like Flax and Chia contain Omega 3 Fatty Acids which promote healthy skin and hair growth. Always consult your physician prior to taking supplements.

Sleep on a silk pillowcase. Silk’s smooth exterior promotes a gentle night of rest, especially for those that are prone to waking up with hair nests! Another gentle silk alternative would be silk wrapped elastic hair ties.

Seek stress receiving activities to ease your mind. It’s easy to let hair loss consume your life, but it doesn’t have to be that way! Meditation, a walk in nature, exercise, and doing more of what makes you happy are just some ways to reduce stress in your life.
